Interview with Lars Schmidt
We sit down with Lars Schmidt, a pioneering voice in HR and workplace transformation.

To me, "building a better world of work" is about creating environments where people thrive—where HR isn’t just a function but a strategic force shaping business and culture. The traditional models of work were built for a different era, and today’s dynamic world demands a new approach. HR stands at the center of this transformation, and at Amplify, we aim to empower leaders to meet this challenge head-on.
We bring this mission to life through several avenues. Our HR Executive Search practice helps companies find leaders who don’t just maintain the status quo but drive meaningful change. Our Amplify Talent Community connects progressive HR practitioners worldwide, fostering collaboration and peer learning. Finally, through our editorial work—be it the Redefining HR podcast, my book, or open-source resources—we’re equipping HR professionals with the tools and insights they need to redefine what’s possible in their roles.
Ultimately, this mission is about reimagining HR as the heartbeat of modern organizations—one that drives innovation, inclusion, and impact.

The term "future of work" became a buzzword over the past decade, often used to describe incremental changes to traditional work models. But the seismic shifts we’ve experienced - particularly over the last few years - render that phrase obsolete. The future of work isn’t some distant concept; we’re living it right now.
The next phase of workplace transformation is about building workplaces that are adaptive, inclusive, and human-centered. Hybrid and remote work models are here to stay, but it’s not just about where we work, it’s about rethinking how we work. Organizations need to move beyond outdated metrics of productivity and focus on outcomes, well-being, and connection.
For HR leaders, this means embracing agility and becoming stewards of organizational culture in a decentralized environment. It also requires fostering environments that celebrate diverse perspectives, prioritize mental health, and invest in continuous learning. The companies that thrive in this new era will be the ones that treat their employees not as assets, but as partners in building something meaningful.
Our approach to HR Executive Search is grounded in the belief that transformative leaders are defined not just by their skills but by their vision and ability to execute change. Traditional search models often prioritize credentials over capabilities, but at Amplify, we dig deeper.
We start by understanding the organization’s unique culture, challenges, and opportunities. This allows us to identify leaders who align with their values but also bring fresh perspectives. We look for candidates who have a proven track record of driving innovation and creating inclusive environments.
Transparency is another cornerstone of our approach. From clear pricing to regular updates throughout the search process, we ensure our clients are fully informed and engaged. We also don’t just stop at placement. Through onboarding advisory, we help new leaders integrate successfully and make an immediate impact.
Ultimately, our goal is to connect organizations with HR leaders who can elevate their people strategies and turn them into competitive advantages. It’s about finding individuals who don’t just fit the role but redefine what’s possible within it.

The idea for the Amplify Talent Community came from a realization that HR leaders often face similar challenges but lack a dedicated space to connect, collaborate, and grow. While there are countless resources for other professional functions, HR practitioners needed something tailored to their unique roles and aspirations.
Our community is designed to fill that gap. It’s a modern career development platform where senior HR leaders can exchange ideas, share best practices, and learn from one another. With members from across the globe, it’s a space where diverse perspectives converge, creating rich opportunities for growth and innovation.
What makes it impactful is its focus on peer-driven learning. Members don’t just consume content. They actively contribute to discussions, mentor one another, and co-create solutions to real-world challenges. It’s this sense of shared purpose and collaboration that makes the Amplify Talent Community so powerful.
Seeing the tangible impact it’s had on HR leaders, whether helping them navigate complex transformations, land new roles, or implement groundbreaking initiatives, has been incredibly rewarding. It’s a testament to the power of connection and the potential of HR to lead the way in redefining work.
Both the book and the podcast were born out of a desire to shift the narrative around HR. For too long, HR was viewed as a back-office function focused on compliance and administrative tasks. But the reality is that HR leaders are at the forefront of shaping modern organizations. They’re driving culture, innovation, and employee experience, and I wanted to tell those stories.
Redefining HR, the book, is a comprehensive look at how HR has evolved and where it’s headed. It highlights the leaders and practices redefining what’s possible, offering a blueprint for building modern people teams. The podcast complements this by providing a platform for candid conversations with HR innovators. Through these projects, I aim to connect the dots between strategy, leadership, and impact.
What’s been most rewarding is hearing from readers and listeners who feel inspired to rethink their own approaches. These projects align perfectly with my mission to elevate HR because they showcase the transformative potential of the profession and empower others to join in shaping the future of work.
Many of the challenges companies bring to us are tied to the rapid pace of change in today’s workplace. From adapting to hybrid work models to building inclusive cultures, organizations are navigating uncharted territory. One common issue is how to balance agility with stability - how to remain flexible in response to market changes while maintaining a strong sense of purpose and culture.
Another challenge is talent strategy. Companies want to attract and retain top talent, but that requires more than competitive salaries. It’s about offering meaningful work, growth opportunities, and a culture where employees feel valued and supported.
Our advisory services are tailored to address these complexities. For example, we help companies design talent strategies that align with their long-term goals, ensuring they’re positioned to thrive even in uncertain times. We also guide them in fostering cultures of inclusion and belonging, recognizing that diverse teams drive better outcomes.
By providing actionable insights and a collaborative approach, we empower organizations to not only solve immediate challenges but also build a foundation for sustainable success.

Open-source HR is about breaking down silos and fostering a culture of sharing and collaboration within the profession. Traditionally, organizations have kept their HR strategies and resources closely guarded, but this limits growth and innovation. Open-source HR flips that model on its head by encouraging transparency and the free exchange of ideas.
For example, if one company develops a successful onboarding framework, sharing that resource allows others to adapt and build upon it. This doesn’t just benefit individual organizations—it elevates the entire field of HR by creating a collective pool of knowledge and best practices.
I’ve been passionate about open-source HR because I believe the challenges we face are too big for any one company to solve alone. Whether it’s addressing systemic inequities or navigating a global shift to hybrid work, we’re stronger when we work together.
Through initiatives like the Amplify Talent Community and resources shared in Redefining HR, I aim to create platforms where HR leaders can collaborate openly and build solutions that move the entire profession forward.
